WHAT YOU LEAVE WITH

01A transferable-experience map

02A learning gap to investigate

03A rotation proposal

04A transition and review plan

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Fictional example: a reporting accountant is exploring FP&A.

Evidence already available
Investigated monthly variances and explained the main movement to a finance manager.
Useful next assignment
Ask to support one forecast cycle and prepare a driver-based explanation with the receiving team.
What to check
Check assumptions, business understanding and feedback. Reporting experience alone does not establish forecasting competence.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
01

Find the overlap

Compare actual tasks and judgement in both functions. Separate demonstrated skills, adjacent experience and work you have not done.

02

Choose a small test

Agree a shadowing opportunity or scoped assignment before proposing a full move. Define what the receiving manager will review.

03

Make the move workable

Clarify workload, release time, support, handover and review dates with both teams. Decide what happens if the rotation ends without a permanent transfer.

START WITH YOUR EXPERIENCE

Make the next conversation useful.

Complete the first three fields. Add any other detail you know. Your entries stay on this page and are lost if you refresh or leave, so download your plan when ready. Use broad descriptions and avoid confidential employer information.

Role and broad responsibilities. You do not need a CV.

For example: financial reporting to FP&A, or operations to business analysis.

Describe what you did, how you approached it and the result. Similar tasks do not automatically mean full readiness for a new function.

Use an internal role brief or a conversation you can describe without confidential details. Leave blank if still unknown.

Name a task you have not yet performed, rather than simply a qualification you do not hold.

For example: support one forecast cycle or document requirements for a small process change.

A role is enough, such as receiving manager or HR business partner.

For example: after a conversation with the receiving team. This does not book a meeting.
